helen keller

must have really had it together.

why?
because she was blind, and deaf. she couldn't be racist, and she couldn't judge on appearances, or voices, or how people carry themselves, or what they wear, or their shoes - which is what i do.

how do you learn braille? i'd imagine it'd be easier to know what you're feeling if someone told you, "these two bumps are the letter 'f'. it, combined with a few other syllables and vowels, can create the words flower, fun, fungus, foot, etc." except helen couldn't hear them telling her about the letter 'f'. i don't understand how helen wrote her own book, unless she just narrated it to someone who could see.

i could have never been helen keller's personal teacher, because i would have been too awe-struck to ever teach her anything. plus, i'm really impatient and i stop before i've begun.

i wonder how she remembered people - by touching their faces? well a lot of people i know don't like you entering that personal bubble, and maybe she didn't have a lot of friends because of that.

i would then assume unless they kept her on a leash, she'd get lost a lot. how would you find her? she can't tell where she is or how to get back to where she was, and she can't hear you screaming from your porch that dinner is ready.

it would be easy to trick helen keller into eating her vegetables, because by the time she finds out that they really are steamed carrots and corn, she'd have mostly consumed it and it would be rude to spit it out into the napkin which you could hide from her, anyways.

i suppose playing hide-and-go-seek would be fun with helen, but only if she was 'it'. she would probably be a very good hider, though, and in the event you can't find her, you can't call out "helen, please come out from behind that rose bush that you are hiding behind because it is very prickly and you will probably walk through it, and also, we are done playing because we can't find you." so that would present a problem.

i would hope helen would only ever wear dresses, because then you don't have to worry about matching, since she can't see and all. wearing one big smock of color is a lot easier to coordinate with, because you don't need to coordinate at all.

i hope helen was never left alone outside, because if she was allergic to bees, perhaps, she wouldn't know that one was stinging her in the arm and then her throat would swell up and not only would she be deaf, and blind, but now she can't breathe or talk. also, she wouldn't know a mosquito has slipped into her smock-of-color and is biting her on the back of her thigh until it is completely done and has left her with a polka-dot of itch.

i am extremely glad helen is blind, because then she can never read this blog. unless someone rude and mean printed it out in braille on a braille printer and gave it to helen to read.

i am also extremely glad helen is dead so no one can do that.

  1. I liked the ending, it brought a smile and a little bit of humor to my life after the last few dark weeks. Very well written once again!
